One affiliate link appears on this page, placed twice: once after the short answer and once in the last section, both to the same Amazon US listing, the At the Table cover of the Japanese special edition, whose seller was Hobonichi itself when I read it on 11 October 2026. The Snufkin cover is named below by ASIN, with a plain link that carries no tag. Amazon's prices and stock are not reproduced on this page. How this site works.
Hobonichi Techo 2027 Weeks, Moomin Special Edition (Japanese): Same Cover, Different Book
Hobonichi's 2027 Weeks has a Moomin cover in two scenes, At the Table and A Day in the Life of Snufkin. Each exists twice: as a Japanese-edition special edition and as an English edition. The covers are the same. This page is for the reader who likes the cover and has to choose which of the two books to put under it, and who cannot read Japanese. It does not ask whether a weekly book is the right type of planner, which is the planner guide's question, or what the English Weeks is in general, which is the English Weeks' file.
Before the rest: I work for a Japanese planner maker, which competes with the makers named on this page; none of them is a customer or a supplier of mine, I have no business with any of them, and I do not use my employer or its products as a source or an example. I have not handled either book. The sources are Hobonichi's English product and feature pages for the Moomin covers, read with its store set to ship to the United States, and two Amazon US listings for the Japanese-edition books, read logged out under two US ZIP codes, all in the days around 10 and 11 October 2026. Everything here is assembled from published specifications, not from testing; opinions are marked as opinions.
The short answer. Hobonichi's page for the Japanese special edition opens with this note: "The special specifications are for the Japanese edition (January start) only." The maker's feature page says the English edition with this cover has the contents of the standard edition. So the choice is between a Japanese-language planner with Moomin quotes on its weekly pages and Moomin illustrations on its weekly, memo and monthly pages, and an English Weeks with the Moomin on the cover and standard contents inside. In my view, if you want the Moomin art inside and can live with not reading the words, take the Japanese special edition; if you want to read the week's quote, take the English one. By the descriptions I read, no single book does both. What I did not check is how a weekly page of the special edition writes the weekdays and months, which decides how usable it is as a planner if you cannot read Japanese; I have not seen a photograph of one.
Hobonichi's own store is the unpaid route: on 10 October 2026 it priced the At the Table special edition at $32.00 before shipping and import charges (store page, not a paid link). The Amazon listing below is the other route; compare the two on the day you buy.
→ Hobonichi Techo 2027 Weeks, Moomin: At the Table, Japanese edition, on Amazon US (ASIN B0H6P1CGND; seller was Hobonichi on 11 October 2026, check the "Sold by" line) (paid link; it returns once at the end)
The same cover in two books
The left column is the Japanese special edition, the right the English edition with the same cover. Both columns are from Hobonichi's English store pages for the At the Table cover, read on 10 October 2026; the Snufkin pages gave the same strings except where the covers section below says otherwise.
| Japanese special edition | English edition | |
|---|---|---|
| A quote each week | "One per week (Japanese / Moomin edition)": quotes from the Moomin novels, in Japanese | "One per week (English)" |
| Where Moomin illustrations are described | Weekly pages, memo pages, the monthly calendars (one for each month, plus small ones at the checkbox area) and the bonus pages at the back (Hobonichi's feature page says the standard bonus pages carry Moomin illustrations too); the front endpaper has a special-edition design and the two bookmarks their own colours | Not listed in the specifications on Hobonichi's English-edition pages |
| Bonus pages in both | 365 Days Check-Off Sheet (Moomin-patterned in the special edition, per Hobonichi's feature page), Using Things around You to Measure Size, My 100, Addresses, Personal Notes | The same five |
| Bonus pages in one only | Friends of Moominvalley, A Moomin Harvest List (both special edition only); Solar Terms, Emergency Preparedness, Age Table, Conversion Chart, Getting the most of Hobonichi (the Japanese edition only) | Useful Abbreviations, Favorites, Phrases to Break That Writer's Block, Hobonichi's Neighborhood: Kanda/Jinbo-cho Map |
| "Listed Information" printed in the calendar | Week of the year, rokuyō (the six-day cycle), solar terms, Japanese holidays, moon phase | Week of the year, moon phase |
| Memo pages | 71 | 75 |
| Same on both pages | 188 × 94 mm, 11 mm thick, 240 pages, Tomoe River paper, thread-sewn, a 3.55 mm grid (3.4 mm on the monthly pages), Monday-start weeks; weekly pages from 30 November 2026 to 2 January 2028 (114), monthly pages December 2026 to March 2028 (32) |
The bonus-page lines are counted by name: a page counts as shared if both editions' specification lists carry the same name. Hobonichi's Japanese-language page for the special edition describes the holiday entry more fully than the English page does, as holidays and observances, naming Valentine's Day, Hinamatsuri, Mother's Day and Father's Day; the English page stops at Japanese holidays. I have not seen a photograph of a special-edition page, so where the Japanese sits on a weekly page, and how the weekdays are written, I have not checked.
One opinion, marked as one: the differences that matter to a reader of English are the weekly quote and the Moomin art inside; the extra Listed Information and the Japanese-only bonus pages are things you would use only if you read the Japanese beside them.
The two covers
Hobonichi's specification lists for the two special-edition covers match except for the weight and the cover material. The printing of the cover and the bookmarks differs by scene, and I did not check whether the endpapers or bookmark colours differ between the two.
| Cover | Material and weight (Hobonichi) | Amazon US ASIN |
|---|---|---|
| At the Table | Rayon / paper, about 140 g | B0H6P1CGND (linked above) |
| A Day in the Life of Snufkin | Polyester / paper, about 138 g | B0H6P5BCVB (plain link, not paid) |
On 10 October 2026 Hobonichi's store, set to ship to the United States, showed the Snufkin special edition with a notice that the product was expecting a restock. On 11 October I looked again without the US shipping setting, which the pane did not hold that day: the notice was on the Snufkin pages of both editions, and the At the Table pages of both carried none. Whether the notice varies by shipping country, I did not test.
When another page is the right one
- You want to read the weekly quote. Take the English edition. On 11 October 2026, read without the US shipping setting, its At the Table store page carried no restock notice and the Snufkin one did. Hobonichi's English-store pages for it are the At the Table page and the Snufkin page (not paid links), and the English Weeks in general is its own file.
- You want a page for every day. A weekly book is the wrong shape; the A6 daily book in English is the English Original.
- You want a different cover. The Weeks' covers are listed in the English Weeks' file.
Not assessed on this page, among others: the Japanese-edition Weeks in covers other than these two, the April-start books, the other Moomin products, and any other maker's weekly planner. They are listed so you know they were left out, not because they were weighed and found wanting.
Buying it
Two routes, in this order.
| Where | What I read there, and when |
|---|---|
| → Hobonichi's own English store, Moomin: At the Table, special edition (Japanese) (not a paid link) | Viewed with the store set to ship to the United States on 10 October 2026, the page priced the At the Table special edition at $32.00 and the Snufkin special edition at $35.00, the latter with the restock notice above. I did not go to checkout; what the store adds for shipping and import charges is in the English Original's file and the guide to buying from Japan. |
| → Hobonichi Techo 2027 Weeks, Moomin: At the Table, Japanese edition, on Amazon US (ASIN B0H6P1CGND; seller was Hobonichi on 11 October 2026, check the "Sold by" line) (paid link) | Under ZIP 90012 and then 10001, on 11 October 2026, the "Sold by" line on the At the Table listing, and on the Snufkin listing (ASIN B0H6P5BCVB, a plain link, not paid), was Hobonichi Co., Ltd. [Official], seller ID A2HG22EPTK8H5A; at 90012 the all-offers panel named no second seller, and at 10001 no other seller ID appeared on either listing page. |
So read the "Sold by" line before you buy; the seller on the day you look may not be the one I found. How Hobonichi's seller name is tied to its seller ID is described in the English Original's file. Price and stock are on the listing.
