Hobonichi Techo 2027 Original, English Edition: A Buyer's File

Three questions tend to come up when someone finds this book on Amazon US. Is that listing Hobonichi's own or a reseller's? Is this the edition you actually want? And would you be better off ordering from Hobonichi in Japan? This page answers the first two. On the third it can tell you what each shop offers that the other does not, but not which is cheaper delivered, and it says why. One rule of this site, stated once: Amazon's prices and stock are not copied here, because Amazon's terms for sites like this one allow them to be shown only when Amazon serves them. They are on the listing.

It covers one book: the Hobonichi Techo 2027 Original, English edition, A6, one page per day, January start (ASIN B0H6P98KGJ). If you have not yet settled the size, whether you want a weekly page, or how much blank paper you need, start with the planner guide instead.

Before the rest: I work for a Japanese planner maker, which competes with the makers named on this page; none of them is a customer or a supplier of mine, I have no business with any of them, and I do not use my employer or its products as a source or an example. I have not handled this book. What follows comes from Hobonichi's own English and Japanese pages, the Amazon US listing, and one Japanese-language blog post, and each is marked as what it is.

The short answers, as read on 24 and 25 September 2026, Japan time. Prices and stock move:

• With a US ZIP code set, the offer on the Amazon US page was Hobonichi's own. Shipped by Amazon, sold by Hobonichi Co., Ltd. [Official], and the only offer listed.
• The English edition has Monday-start calendars only, and Hobonichi says those calendars list no holidays.
• Hobonichi sells books and covers separately, and the store gift comes only from its own shops. The gift is the one thing I can confirm its store has and the Amazon listing does not.

Who is selling it on Amazon US

On the morning of 25 September 2026, Japan time, I set Amazon's delivery location to two US ZIP codes, 10001 (New York) and 90012 (Los Angeles), and read the listing under each. Both showed the following:

• Ships from: Amazon
• Sold by: Hobonichi Co., Ltd. [Official]
• Other offers: the all-offers panel listed this one offer and no other

The price, the stock line, the delivery date and the returns line are on the listing and change; read them there.

That seller is the one Hobonichi points to. Its English Where to Buy page, read 24 September 2026, links "amazon US" to a storefront with the same Amazon seller ID as the one on this listing.

One caution. Viewed the day before from a delivery address in Japan, the same listing also showed two other new offers, which I did not look into. The difference may come from the delivery location or from the day; I did not separate the two. And on 26 September 2026, read at ZIP 90012, a separate Amazon page for what is described as the same book, titled "Hobonichi Techo 2027 Original English Version" (ASIN B0H1KLGST9), named a third-party seller, not Hobonichi, on its "Sold by" line. So on any Hobonichi listing, read two things before you buy: the ASIN in the page address, and the "Sold by" line. The seller name alone is a string anyone could imitate; what ties it to Hobonichi is the seller ID, and you can check it yourself: click the seller's name on the listing, and the profile page's address carries a seller= code, which should match the one in the storefront link on Hobonichi's own Where to Buy page. That is the check described above, and the Weeks and Cousin files point here rather than repeating it.

And from Hobonichi's own store?

With the store's shipping country set to the United States on 25 September 2026, Hobonichi's English product page showed this book at $27.00. (Set to Japan, the same page shows ¥2,860 including tax.)

That $27.00 is a shelf price, not what the book costs at your door. What the store adds, and how its terms differ from Amazon's, is the same for every book it sells and is gathered in one place below, Buying from Hobonichi itself. I did not go through to checkout, so I have no delivered figure for a US address, and I cannot compare the two routes for you.

Whether this is the edition you want

Hobonichi's English type guide for the Original, read 24 September 2026, describes this book in two sentences:

"This is the English version of the Original that has Monday-start monthly calendars. The calendars do not list holidays."

Two things follow, and one does not.

• Monday start only. The same guide lists Sunday-start monthly calendars only for Japanese-language editions of the Original, one starting in January (the one with red text on the cover) and one in April. Those are not assessed here.
• No holidays on the calendars. The guide's description of the English daily page does not mention holidays either way. The same guide describes Japanese holidays printed large in pale ink on the page background, without saying that of the English edition. Nothing I read says any edition marks US holidays.
• It is not the Hobonichi Planner. Hobonichi lists the Planner, an English A6 daily book with its own layout, separately from this one.

This book also has no weekly pages. Whether you want a weekly page at all is a question the planner guide above goes through; it is not argued here. The Weeks, which has them, is assessed in its own file.

The cover, the store gift, and what changed for US orders

The cover. The product page says: "The Hobonichi Techo is designed to be used with a cover." Hobonichi sells books and covers as separate items, and the Amazon listing is for the book. I have not checked whether Amazon US sells the covers.

The store gift. Hobonichi's product page names this book's "Hobonichi Store Exclusive Bonus" as the "Plain Old Acorn Charm". Its 2027 shopping notice lists only Hobonichi's own online store and shops as places that include the bonus. The Amazon US listing mentions no bonus.

What changed for US orders. Hobonichi's English 2027 shopping notice, read 24 September 2026, says that from 1 September 2026 it is "making some changes to how the Hobonichi Techo 2027 is sold to customers in the United States compared to last year." It links to a help article for the details. That link sent me to a login page, so I have not read the article.

One user's account fills in part of it. A Japanese-language post on note.com, published 1 August 2026 by a Hobonichi user whose profile says they have lived in California for 25 years, says that in the 2026 season, buying from the US, book and cover could not be bought separately. The post then reproduces wording the author says they found after clicking through from Hobonichi's 2027 announcement page: from sales on or after 1 September, every techo book and techo cover, past covers included, can also be bought on its own.

Buying from Hobonichi itself

These terms are Hobonichi's store's, not this book's, and they apply to any Hobonichi book bought from its own site; the Weeks and Cousin files on this site point here rather than repeating them. All read from Hobonichi's English shopping guide and 2027 notices on 24 and 25 September 2026.

• Shelf price versus delivered price. The product page shows a shelf price in your currency; the shipping fee appears on the final confirmation screen. The checkout is run by Global-e, so expect that name at payment.
• Duties. They depend on the destination: some are paid at checkout, some are collected by the carrier on delivery, and for that second kind Hobonichi says it cannot quote the amount in advance. How US import charges work in general is in the guide to buying from Japan.
• Returns. Hobonichi's shopping guide gives 14 days from delivery for returns for personal reasons; from abroad, you pay the international return postage, and prepaid duties and taxes are, as a rule, not refunded. Amazon's own returns line is on each Amazon listing.
• Order limits and restock notes. Product pages carry a per-item limit (20 per item on the pages I read) and, when a colour or edition is out, a restock note; the Weeks file shows what those look like.
• The store gift. Hobonichi's 2027 shopping notice lists only its own online store and shops as places that include the store bonus; this book's bonus is named above. Whether the Weeks or the Cousin carry a bonus of their own, I have not checked.
• US orders since 1 September 2026. Hobonichi says it changed how the 2027 techo is sold to US customers; what I could and could not read of that is set out above.

What Hobonichi publishes about the book

From the English product page and the matching Japanese page, both read 24 September 2026, which give the same figures:

On paper and pens, the maker's own "Please Read Before You Buy" note warns that depending on the pen, the ink and the conditions, "some ink may bleed through or take longer to dry", and suggests trying a pen somewhere inconspicuous first. That is Hobonichi's warning, not a test of mine.

When to pass on it

• You want the week to start on Sunday. That means a Japanese-language edition.
• You want holidays printed for you. Hobonichi says these calendars have none.
• You want the acorn charm. Only Hobonichi's own shops include it.

Not assessed on this page, among others: the Hobonichi Planner, the Japanese-language Originals, the Avec two-book sets, the Weeks, the Cousin, HON, the Day-Free and the 5-Year Techo, and any other maker's planner. They are listed so you know they were left out, not because they were weighed and found wanting.

Buying it

If the store gift is part of what you want, that means Hobonichi's own store: its shipping appears on its final confirmation screen, and duty is charged either there or on delivery, depending on where you are.
