Hobonichi Techo 2027 Day-Free: A Buyer's File for Readers Without Japanese
The Day-Free is Hobonichi's notebook-first book: a monthly calendar and 171 pages of graph paper with no dates on them, so you write as much or as little as you like on any day. Hobonichi's English type guide for 2027, read on 26 September 2026, lists only Japanese Day-Free books, in A6 and A5; its product pages give the language as Japanese; and I found no English Day-Free on Amazon US.
That makes the useful question for an English reader a practical one: how much of the book is actually in Japanese? This page answers what Hobonichi's own pages say, section by section. One thing it cannot answer: whether the month and weekday headings on the calendar are printed in Japanese. Hobonichi's specification does not say, and I have not seen a copy.
Before the rest: I work for a Japanese planner maker, which competes with the makers named on this page; none of them is a customer or a supplier of mine, I have no business with any of them, and I do not use my employer or its products as a source or an example. I have not handled a Day-Free, so I have not seen its printed pages. What is below comes from Hobonichi's English and Japanese product pages and type guide, and from two Amazon listings read under two US ZIP codes, all on 26 September 2026. Where I offer a view of my own, it is labelled.

Where the Japanese is

The A6 book runs to 240 pages in all and the A5 to 224, on Hobonichi's figures; the table does not account for every page, and the difference between the two sizes is not fully explained by it.
Here is my reading of that table, as an opinion rather than a finding. If the notebook pages are what you want, those 171 undated pages carry one Japanese quote each, at the foot. Of what the specification lists, rokuyō, the lunar calendar, the solar terms and Japanese holidays are information aimed at Japanese daily life; whatever page they sit on, a reader without Japanese would be writing around them rather than using them. That judgement rests on the listings, not on a look at the pages, and the open question from the top of this page, the calendar headings, still stands.
Who should look elsewhere
- You want your calendars in English. Hobonichi's English type guide for 2027 lists no English Day-Free, and I know of no English Hobonichi book in the same undated-notebook form. The planner guide's section on memo space covers how much blank paper other books give you.
- You want US holidays marked. The specification lists Japanese holidays.
- You want to use the bonus pages. Hobonichi lists the book's language as Japanese; how much text each bonus page carries, I have not seen.
If none of those rules it out, and the unanswered question about the calendar headings is one you can live with, Hobonichi's own Amazon listing for the A6 is → Hobonichi Techo 2027 Day-Free, A6 (Japanese), a paid link that returns at the end of the page.

The A6 is the Original's height and width, and Hobonichi's product page says it is "roughly half as thick as the Hobonichi Techo Original" (the Original's specification gives 15 mm and about 195 g, as its file records). The practical point for someone who already owns an Original cover: Hobonichi names it as a fit. The same goes for a Cousin cover and the A5; the Cousin is covered in its own file. Hobonichi also makes a Day-Free-only cover, which its type guide calls BS Lite; it is not assessed here.
One date to know. Hobonichi says there is no April-start Day-Free, and that the monthly calendar runs through March 2028 so the book can be used until then.

On Amazon
Both 2027 Day-Free listings I found, the A6 (ASIN B0H6PCQD7C) and the A5 (ASIN B0H6PDVSN1), have "Japanese" in the title and carried Hobonichi's own seller account under ZIP 10001 and 90012, checked as the Original's file describes, with no second seller in the all-offers panel (opened once each, the A6 at 10001 and the A5 at 90012).
Not assessed on this page, among others: the BS Lite and other covers, the Japanese-edition Original and Cousin, Hobonichi's other formats, and any other maker's undated notebook planner. They are listed so you know they were left out, not because they were weighed and found wanting.
