Hobonichi Techo 2027 Cousin, English Edition: A Buyer's File

Search Amazon US for the 2027 Cousin in English and two pages come back for what looks like the same book. On 26 September 2026 the price was not what told them apart, and what did is the first thing this page sets out. The second is a number from the other store: Hobonichi's own site priced the same book at $43.00 before shipping and duty that morning. Amazon's own prices and stock lines are not copied here, because Amazon's terms for sites like this one allow them only when Amazon serves them; they are on the listings. And, said once on this page: which route is cheaper delivered, I cannot tell you, because I did not go through Hobonichi's checkout.

The book is the Hobonichi Techo 2027 Cousin, English edition: A5, one page per day, with the vertical weekly pages that Hobonichi's type guide calls "a page unique to the Cousin", January start. Hobonichi's own weights put it at about 445 g, against about 195 g for the Original and about 134 g for the Weeks (each from the maker's page for that book, as recorded in their files on this site); its English product page says "Many also use it as a 'desk techo'". Whether A5 and a daily page are what you want is the planner guide's question. This page assumes you have answered it and are choosing where to click.

Before the rest: I work for a Japanese planner maker, which competes with the makers named on this page; none of them is a customer or a supplier of mine, I have no business with any of them, and I do not use my employer or its products as a source or an example. I have not handled this book. The sources are named as they come up: two Amazon listings, read under two US ZIP codes; Hobonichi's English and Japanese product pages; and its type guide.

The two listings

Both read on 26 September 2026, Japan time, with Amazon's delivery location set first to ZIP 10001 and then to 90012. The columns are what the listing itself showed.

Listing A is the maker's. Listing B names a different seller, with Amazon doing the shipping, which is why both pages say "Ships from Amazon". The seller line is where the two pages differ, and it sits below the price, not beside it; the ASIN in the address bar is the other thing that separates them.

What the second page is

Listing B is a third-party seller's page for the same book, shipped by Amazon. I have not assessed the seller and this page passes no judgement on it; the fact a buyer can use is on the listing itself, that the seller is not Hobonichi, and the delivery line under its price is the other thing to read before deciding. A page of the same kind for the English Original, carrying a third-party seller's name, was on Amazon that morning too, and the Original's file records it, along with the check that ties Hobonichi's seller name to Hobonichi's seller ID. That check is the Original's file's and is not repeated here.

What the English edition has, and what it does not

Hobonichi's English product page and the Japanese page for the same English book, both read 26 September 2026, agree on the following. The Japanese page is the one that gives the page counts.

One page differs by edition and is easy to miss. At the start of each month there is a page for notes, which the type guide calls "Remember This". The guide says that in the Japanese edition this page "features a seasonal compendium, including information such as foods that are in season and season-specific events". It says nothing of the kind for the English edition, and the English product page describes the page as a place to write. My reading is that the compendium belongs to the Japanese edition. The guide never states that the English book lacks it, so this is a reading of the guide's layout, and I would not lean on it harder than that.

Paper and ink: Hobonichi's product page for this book carries its "Please Read Before You Buy" note on pens and ink, and the Amazon listing's bullets repeat it. I have not written in this one.

No English Avec that I could find

Hobonichi also sells the Cousin as the Avec, the same year split into two half-year books so that each is, in Hobonichi's words, "about half the weight". On 26 September 2026 I looked in four places: the Avec's product page in Hobonichi's English store, titled "Japanese Cousin Avec Books"; the type guide's Cousin lineup, which lists the Avec with no edition label where the other books carry one; Hobonichi's English lineup filtered to the Cousin, 84 items, none of them an Avec; and Amazon US, where a search of Hobonichi's storefront for "avec" returned only the Japanese Cousin Avec (B0H6P6MCD5, Hobonichi's own listing) and the Japanese Original Avec, and a general search for the words "Avec English" returned no Hobonichi book. That is where I looked and what I found; it is not a statement about Hobonichi's whole catalogue. If you want the Cousin's layout in English, the 445 g book was the only one on offer that day.

Hobonichi's own store

Hobonichi's English product page, viewed as a US customer, priced the English Cousin at $43.00 on the day, marked "Available", up to 20 per item. Shelf price only: what the store adds for shipping and duty, and how its returns differ from Amazon's, are store-wide matters gathered in the Original's file, and the customs side is in the guide to buying from Japan.

Reasons to choose something else

• You carry your planner. At the maker's stated weights, the Cousin is heavier than the Original and the Weeks together, and Hobonichi's page says many keep it on a desk. The Original's file covers the A6 daily book and the Weeks file the wallet-sized weekly.
• You want the seasonal page. That is the Japanese edition, on the type guide's account.
• You want holidays printed. Hobonichi says the English calendars list none.
• You want the two-book Avec in English. I could not find one, on the day, in the places named above.

Not assessed on this page, among others: the Japanese-language Cousin and Avec, the April-start Cousin, the Cousin covers, Hobonichi's other formats, and any other maker's A5 daily planner. They are listed so you know they were left out, not because they were weighed and found wanting.

Buying it

On Amazon, the ASIN and the seller line settle it, as the Original's file describes, and the delivery line tells you when. On 26 September 2026, Hobonichi's own listing was the one with "Hobonichi Co., Ltd. [Official]" as the seller. The other route, Hobonichi's store at $43.00 plus what its checkout adds, is above:
